The Pirate and Bluebelle

The Pirate and Bluebelle

We would love to welcome you to our little store, The Pirate and Bluebelle!

We have been trading on Kempock Street since 2014, starting in cupboard sized premises then moving to our larger shop in April 2016.

We started our business selling solely our photographic products with our beautiful local area as a focus, however we very quickly joined with a creative crew from Inverclyde and beyond to display and sell the work of over 50 artists and designers alongside our eclectic and unique gift ranges from our carefully curated ethical suppliers.

Working closely with such original and innovative people means that our little shop is ever evolving and changing with new pieces arriving all the time with many products which are completely unique to us!

We are a shop full of colour, why not pop in for a browse and brighten your day!

The Pirate and Bluebelle was created by Nick Summers and Heather McCulloch, so who are we?

We were both in the same class in school, although we weren't friends back then. Nick being one of those boys your parents told you about and the teachers said would amount to nothing (i.e. quite cool) whilst Heather was a bit of a teacher's pet with huge glasses and a terrible perm (ie not cool).

Fast forward 25 years and we met again via social media and a pretty awful school reunion and we recognised that time had made Nick a little less cool and Heather a little more cool meaning we were on more even ground.

We both loved taking photos and started sharing and critiquing each others images over copious amounts of coffee. We then took the plunge and started sharing our photos to a wider audience on social media. Nick had just left a job and we realised that we should see this as an opportunity for us to test the market with our gallery idea.

We worked hard to create a happy and joyful place full of beauty, fun and inspiration to share with our customers and we love nothing better than seeing our visitors smile and laugh!

Nowadays we are both still drinking copious amounts of coffee, occasionally bickering like brother and sister and taking photos whenever we get the chance AND we get to work with our best mate, does it get any better than that?

Oh, and we know we haven’t explained the name, that’s a story for another time……

Our Recommendations

Things we would do while visiting Gourock

Stop at the ‘grassy mound’ just outside the station, and if you are able (and the weather allows!) climb to the top and sit a while and drink in the most breathtaking views in the world!

Bring your bathing suit and take a dip in our salt water outdoor pool! Heated to balmy temperature, enjoy a swim in the most picturesque pool in Scotland. Then pop to one of the amazing eateries for a spot of lunch before hitting the fabulous independent shops! Oh and maybe a wee pint too! (That’s loads more than two things, but its too good to stop at two!).

What we would do while visiting Gourock/Inverclyde

For those who like a great walk, follow the coast road all the way along along the front, past the Cloch Lighthouse and on to Lunderston Bay for a fun day out at a great beach!

Why should visitors come to Gourock?

It's easy to access with regular trains, buses and ferry and once here it’s always got something to make you smile!
